While buying baby clothes is super fun, determining the right size takes a little bit of practice.

Since babies grow more in the first year than any other time in their lives, the general measure is determined by length and width. However, we know it can be tricky to know the clothes size if your baby isn’t an average size.

This is why we created a baby size chart, as well as a handy measuring guide. They will help you understand the baby clothes sizes and guide you to buy the right products, regardless of the baby’s size.

The basics for each age and stage:

Infants: 0 to 6 months

Besides stocking up on onesies and dribble bibs, this stage is all about the endless changing and washing. Since you might be changing your baby’s clothes even up to 10 times a day, make it easy on both of you and opt for stretchy garments and a 2-way zip on the pyjamas. Your newborn will also be napping a lot in this stage, so pick pure cotton fibres which will help him/her warm up when it’s cold and cool down when it’s warm.

The easiest way to know your baby is ready to up a size is when his onesie fits slightly tighter and he/she has a bit of trouble straightening out the legs. Thanks to our Extended size solution, with long sleeve cuffs and two rows of push buttons at the crotch, the little one can grow one size and keep the same garment. Look at our baby size chart below for more help with sizes.

Bigger babies: 6 to 12 months

When it comes to basics, simplicity is key in this stage, so buy clothing that is simple to fasten and take off and on.

Layers in colder seasons are great, but don’t over bundle your baby. The sweating could lead to rashes, so make sure to pick pure cotton fibres which will help him/her warm up when it’s cold and cool down when it’s warm.

Toddlers: 12 months to 4 years

Your toddler is slightly bigger now and ready for adventure! You will want to pick durable clothes that will stand the test of crawling and walking. This is the curious stage as well, so avoid loose buttons and long strings, which could pose a choking hazard.

In this stage there will also be much less mess and fewer daily outfit changes. Now the real fun can begin! Preschool, playdates and outings will make you start creating a more varied wardrobe for your child and there will be plenty to choose from! Our baby clothes are of high quality and designed for everyday life and they are made to be worn, torn and passed on.

Sustainable tip: after your baby grows out of his/her clothes, don’t throw them away! Donate, pass on or sell in bulk per size. We only have one planet and should treat it kind.
